The Plot Thickens…

Well, work continues on Pride, but it’s much slower in coming than I’d prefer.I was able to actually complete the prologue and a scene that occurs about halfway through, but that’s the extent of the actual writing.  Beyond that I’ve been setting up the plots, and trying to get at least the scenes down on paper for me to rework, rearrange and, in some cases, eliminate entirely.

This approach is a lot different than the one I took with Crown.  With that one, I spent years doing all the plot work in my head, and when I finally sat down to write it, I did so from front to back, entirely sans notes.  I’m still not sure if this new approach using phasing is going to work for me, but I’m willing to give it a shot.  Right now, though, it feels a little unnatural.  We’ll see.

On an entirely different subject, many of you have asked when Crown will be available in paperback.  Hopefully, it will be this week, though I know I’ve said it before.  I just ordered my fourth, and what I had hoped was my last printed proof.  It was really close, but I found several little details that needed fixing, and now I have to resubmit it.  I won’t lie, I am really, really tired of messing around with this bit.  While, I know that I’m probably worrying about details that most people would never notice, a paperback isn’t like an eBook.  You can turn a real book over in your hands and closely examine every detail.  I’m just OCD enough to refuse to release a product to the world that is imperfect, at least to my eyes.  But, in case you’re interested, I’ve uploaded the full cover image for anyone who’s interested to take a look at.

Well, I’m off to work on Pride so more.  I’m working on yet another chapter, and it “feels” like it occurs later in the book.  I’d really like to talk about it, but it’d be a real spoiler, not only for Pride, but Crown as well.  So, I’ll bid you farewell in the meantime.  Cheers!

And the hardcover release date?? 😉

That’s a great question. For the paperback, my estimate is Thursday or Friday. I’m waiting for my last proof to show up, which will let me correct the one layout problem it has. After that, I’ll resubmit it for review, which usually takes about a day. Bear in mind, it will only be available CreateSpace in the beginning — they say it takes 3-5 days for it to make its way into Amazon and other book sellers.

As for a hardcover, I haven’t decided to take that one on. I’d have to go to a different (and less cost-friendly) on-demand publisher, and I can definitely say that, for right now, I’m tired of playing with layouts. 🙁
